Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.
Psalm 143:8 (NLT)
I’ve been blessed, over the years, to minister to thousands of youth, young adults, middle-aged, and elderly people. It doesn’t matter which generation they’re from, they can, and have been a blessing on my life.
I’ve also learned that from one generation to the next there are a ton of similarities when it comes to shaky faith. The number one example is that many complain that they don’t “feel God.” They haven’t noticed Him speaking to them, or doing anything, in their lives. After a little prodding, here’s what I’ve found. They haven’t been connecting with God on a regular basis.
Here’s a simple question: Why do we expect God to speak with us if we don’t really ever spend quality time listening to Him? Relationships take effort after all. For example. If I decided not to speak with my wife, spend time with her, and invest in my relationship with her, it would fade and eventually die. It’s no different in our relationship with God.
So, what are we to do in order to claim the promise found in our verse today? Simply put: Seek to connect with God every day. Here are some tips that have worked for me.
Each morning, I say a basic prayer before I even get out of bed. It goes something like this, “Thank you God for another day of life. I surrender it to you. Use me to help advance your kingdom today.” It has become routine (Though I pray that it will always have meaning). When my alarm goes off, I hit the switch and say a prayer. I’ve found that starting my day with something so simple has vastly improved my outlook on life, and lead to countless opportunities to minister on behalf of God.
I dig into the Scriptures each morning (hence the Daily Dose). God’s promises, God’s love letters, are contained in the words of the Bible. How can we claim them if we don’t know them? How do we know of God’s love if we don’t read about how He shows it?
In other words, to experience God’s love each morning, we must connect with Him each morning. Carve out some time. Begin a routine. Be jealous of your time with Him. Don’t let anything distract from it.
