That Ain’t Gold

Years back, on a camping trip, my friends and I thought we’d found real gold. Excited, we filled our pockets, only to learn it was Fool’s Gold, worthless pyrite. How often we chase things that seem enriching but only burden us. Satan tempts us with jobs, looks, possessions, promising joy. It’s all Fool’s Gold. Only one has the love we long for—Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul’s advice is clear: Stop chasing emptiness; focus on what’s truly valuable, on Christ. Lose to gain, ditch Fool’s Gold for eternal richness.

Demonstrate Honor

In the 21st century, honoring others seems to have lost its sparkle. It’s often spoken, but rarely shown, saved for ceremonies or special days. We honor heroes during events like the Medal of Honor ceremony for bravery in combat or on designated days for parents, veterans, and fallen soldiers. But true honor goes beyond isolated moments. Shouldn’t we honor daily?

Consider this: “Live honorably so others can see your goodness.” As Christians, we’re to mirror Jesus’ love, grace, and compassion always. By doing so, people will honor us for the way we live. Hypocrites, however, claim one thing but act differently. A Christian who does wrong while representing grace becomes a hypocrite, distancing others from Jesus. Let’s honor by genuinely reflecting Christ’s light.

No-Good Neighbor

Years ago, a church member asked for my help with a problem. Unsure what to expect, I visited them. They shared how their neighbor was causing trouble, even using violence. Feeling for them, I turned to Romans 12:14: “Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.”

I learned the neighbor had struggles too. My anger turned to sympathy. We decided to pray for him. I left, praying for their relief. A week later, they said he’d changed. He apologized—a miracle!

You might’ve faced a similar situation. Remember, pray for those causing difficulty, asking for God’s blessing. Trust that good things will follow. Witness the miracle unfold.
