Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.Proverbs 3:13 (NLT)
Have you ever been working a problem for a really long time and suddenly the answer just clicks? It’s an amazing moment! Excitement floods your body. Stress melts away. A sense of victory comes over you. A smile emerges on your face. It is glorious! This has happened to me many times in my life. Perhaps the craziest one was when my brain solved the problem while I was sleeping.
I was working as a business manager in Salem, Oregon, and I was in charge of developing a new point-of-sale system (basically a computer-based cash register system) for our organization. I had been programming on the system for months, and it was nearly complete. But there was one small problem. I couldn’t get the system to pop open the cash drawer. There was a bug in the software and I could not figure out what the issue was. For several days I wrote new code. Nothing seemed to work. Then, in the middle of the night, as my body slept, my brain was hard at work on the problem. All of a sudden, I sat up in bed and knew the solution to the problem. It was one simple line of code that was preventing everything from working. I hurried to work the next morning, plugged in the new coding and, boom! Everything worked. I’m not gonna lie, I may have danced around my office for a bit singing “We are the Champions.” It was a huge relief. Joy flooded my life. It was a good day.
In our faith journey, we will also have moments like this. As more and more wisdom and knowledge about who God is enters our lives, the more we experience the joy of unraveling the mysteries of the Almighty. As King Solomon put it, “Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.”
As we studied in our previous devo, all godly wisdom comes from God (Duh!). So that joy we feel is a direct result of coming to know Him. The more we engage with our King, the more His wisdom floods our life. And, more of His wisdom in our life leads to more joy as well. Not a bad side-effect, eh?!
So, today, and every day, spend time learning from, and about, God. Let His wisdom wash over you. Experience the joy which comes from a relationship with our Savior.
