So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NLT)
One of the more intriguing jobs on the planet has got to be working as an ambassador. These men and women literally move to a different country in order to represent the interests of their country of citizenship. For example, we have a U.S. ambassador to China who lives in China and coordinates with the Chinese government to help build relationships, negotiate treaties, and to help ensure that American interests are heard and understood. As a U.S. ambassador, you get to speak on behalf of the President of the United States and the people of this great land. So, not only do you get to immerse yourself into a foreign culture, but you also have the backing of your government to do so.
In our Christian walk, we too are called to be ambassadors. No, we don’t represent the USA, but we are called to represent the Kingdom of God. We are to be God’s mouthpiece here on earth. We are called to build relationships with those outside of God’s Kingdom. But, to do so, we are required to step outside of our comfort zone.
You see, in order to be an ambassador, you have to leave the confines of your normal, Christian life and take the gospel message to foreign territory. No, you don’t have to move to China, or any other country – though God could call you to do so. Foreign territory is anywhere outside of our faith community. Going to church on Sabbath is not foreign territory. Going out Sabbath afternoon and serving the homeless is. Going to potluck is not foreign territory. Going to a non-Christian friend’s house for dinner and relationship-building is.
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, and we become a Christian, we automatically become an ambassador for God. As such, each one of us is called to fulfill our duty to His kingdom. We are given the privilege to share Jesus with the world. And, it is an honor to do so.
So, today, and every day, seek opportunities to be an ambassador for God. Ask Him to show you where to serve and who to connect with each day. Pray that God will give you His words to speak on His behalf. Pray that God will make you a truly awesome ambassador for the Kingdom of God.
