How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension! ~ Psalm 147:5 (NLT)
My family and I are experts at picking the wrong line. Let me explain. When there are multiple lines at airport security, we seem to always choose the one which moves the slowest. When we are standing in line at the grocery store, we tend to end up in the line with the checker who is moving like molasses. It was no different on our recent trip to Disney World.
The ride we really wanted to go on was taking reservations to get on it the moment the park opened. They called them “Boarding Groups.” We had done our research and realized that all of these boarding groups were all snatched up within the first few minutes of the park officially opening each morning. So, we got up super early (5:30 AM on vacation!) to make sure we were there early. When we arrived, we headed to the bag screening area, as we were carrying backpacks. We chose the shortest line. This would surely give us time to get screened and into the park on time. Nope. The person doing the bag check was moving at about half the rate as all the other security personnel. We looked to switch lines, but they had all grown twice as long. What was normally a five-minute process turned into a half-an-hour wait in line. By the time we got into the park, all of the boarding groups were already given out for the day. We got up early on vacation for nothing. I’ll be second guessing our decision for quite some time.
Of course, second guessing is something we all do on a regular basis. We just usually call it regret. We blow all of our money on a video game which actually isn’t that great. We date that person who turns out to be a complete noob. We buy a car for the look of it, only to have it fall apart on us. We experience this a lot in life.
But, our verse today tells us something profound – we never need to second guess God. Here’s how the psalmist put it, “How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” In other words, when God tells you to wait in a line, He always picks the proper one, no matter how slow or fast it moves. His decisions that He makes are perfect, and we will live life with no regrets when we follow His lead. Trust in His wisdom, His understanding, and stop second guessing. You will find peace when you do.
