Jesus Doesn’t Change

In the 21st century, things change at an extremely rapid pace. I remember that it was only a few short years ago that data was measured in megabytes. Now, it’s measured in terabytes. (Which is a million times larger than megabytes) Only nine years ago, cell phones stopped being of the brick variety (Or flip phone if you were really cool!) when the Iphone was first released. And, it was only six years ago that tablet computing became a thing with the release of the first Ipad. 2016 saw the mass adoption of virtual reality technology that you could wear on your head. Who knows what will be invented in the coming weeks, months, or years!

Keeping up with rapid change is just a normal part of life these days.

So how do we, in the 21st century, then relate to a God that never changes? When I write never changes, I mean before time was even evented, there was Jesus. And, as the author of Hebrews says in our verse above, He’s the same in 2017 A.D. as He was in 2017 B.C.

To me, it’s actually a relief. Why? Because that means that we don’t have to guess about who He is, what He’s all about, or whether or not He would accept us into His kingdom. All we have to do is look to the Scriptures, which reveal who Jesus is and was, and we there is what we have now.

You see, Jesus isn’t into slick sales gimmicks that trick us into thinking His new, fancy product will change our lives – that is until the next great thing comes out. Instead, He simply says look at what I have done; I am doing those same things now.

So, when Jesus says that anyone who accepts Him as their Savior will have eternal life, (John 3:16) we can look to the Scriptures and see that Jesus truly did accept anyone who came to Him in faith. He doesn’t change. He doesn’t decide suddenly that unconditional love is so 5,000 years ago. No. He’s old fashioned that way.

The infinite beauty of this is that we don’t have to worry about whether or not God will change His mind about us. We can rest assured that our Savior, Jesus, doesn’t change. Marinate on the fact that His love for you never will, either.
