It’s no secret that over the past several years, God has been leading me deeper and deeper into ministry. Whether it be with tweens, teens, young adults, or those who are kids at heart, God has blessed me with the opportunity to minister to many people. For this, I am eternally grateful.
A year and a half ago, I was blessed with the opportunity to form a new ministry that exists solely to share the Gospel message with the current generation of teens and young adults. As I have thrown myself into the roll of President at Impact 4 Youth Ministries, I have found myself using a greater portion of my primary spiritual gift – evangelism. Speaking at our weekend evangelism training conference this past Spring (CROSS Training) was absolutely amazing. I take no glory for anything that I have done. All glory goes to God. But, when we are utilizing the gifts God has given us, it just is sweet!
This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you… (2 Timothy 1:6)
Yes, I4Y has only had one conference to-date (with at least one more on the way in May), but the planning of the conferences, the visioning, studying, praying, and working with our many volunteers has made my life even more fulfilled than I could have imagined. In addition, I had a front row seat to see the lives of conference attendees be transformed. This ministry has truly lit me up. I will continue to fan the flames of the gift God has given me.
However, following our CROSS Training conference last Spring, I noticed that many of the attendees who left the conference fired up for God, and wanting to turn their lives over to Him, had since stumbled. In just a few short months, the energy and excitement of the Holy Spirit’s power in them had weakened, and they were beginning to move in a direction away from God. It is in response to this phenomena I have started this blog.
This past week, I had a light bulb blow my brain (I’m thinking more like the Holy Spirit leading, but you get the idea) as I was working on the goals for our Metamorphosis Conference. I came to a simple realization. It’s not enough to provide a conference that loads attendees up with the knowledge, power, and energy to share their faith. We need to find a way to sustain that energy outside of the conference as well.
As the leader of I4Y, I want to lead by example. I don’t just want to be the guy that speaks from the stage at the conferences, and then our ministry is absent the remainder of the year. Whether you call it mentoring, discipling, or just teaching, I know this needs to be an integral part of our ministry from this point forward. (Oddly enough, this will allow me to exercise my second spiritual gift as well – teaching.)
It is my hope that through the use of our various communication channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, this blog, email, etc.), that I4Y will not only feed Christian teens and young adults during the conferences, but beyond them as well. This blog will be dedicated to helping them learn more about God; to be inspired by stories of faith in action; to provide study material for their own devotions; to provide an opportunity to have fun in experiencing the awesomeness of God; and pretty much anything else that the Holy Spirit sends my way.
So, hold on tight! I have no idea what this is going to look like. But, with the Holy Spirit guiding, it should be an amazing ride!
P.S. Feel free to drop me a comment on anything you see here. Be sure to go and “fan” the I4Y Facebook page too 🙂
